No universal 300-unit scheme exists. In 2024 the existing 125-unit free power was withdrawn from income taxpayers and limited to one meter per family. The 2026-27 budget offers 300 free units only to about one lakh poor families under a new scheme, whose 2 October 2026 launch was postponed.
