The verdict

Vacancies grew rather than fell: the legislature was told in January 2026 that 2.84 lakh posts were vacant, and aspirants said recruitment had been frozen since November 2024. In February 2026 the cabinet cleared recruitment to 56,432 posts, about a fifth of the vacancies.
